Remembering Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade, Again

Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade has a pretty impressive history. It started in 1972 at Disneyland to provide a similar experience to the popular Electrical Water Pageant at the newly opened Walt Disney World, but drier. Wikipedia takes a deeper dive into the backstory, we, on the other hand, choose to work with brevity (sometimes).

The video below was taken on July 5, 2017, celebrating the 45th anniversary of the parade and only a few weeks before it went away for good, again. In my personal opinion, which means absolutely nothing, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some variation of the Electrical Parade show up for the Magic Kingdom Park’s 50th in a few years.

Pardon the typo and Tricia’s thumb.

The parade has bounced around in various forms and different parks for a long time. As a family we have seen it in the last three locations, Disney California Adventure Park, Magic Kingdom and Disneyland, respectively, but our own relationship with the Electrical Parade started well before that. Tricia and I both grew up with it as a memorable party of our childhood trips to Disneyland, and, now, so too our own kids.

Main Street Electrical Parade, we’ll miss you, and we can’t wait to see you again.

What are your memories of the Main Street Electrical Parade?
